Guided Hiking Trip

March 12-14 2010
Location: Stephan Foster Folk Center, Live Oak, Florida
Meet at Brasingtons Adventure Outfitters at 7AM.
Difficulty: Moderate

Trip Description

We will be meeting at Brasingtons at 7AM, distribute all group and individual equipment, food and prepare our backpacks. After we complete our packing and questions are answered,we will divide into carpooling vehicles for our approximate 1 hour car ride.

Our first meal of the day will be lunch on the road.

After we arrive at Stephan Foster Folk Center (approximately a 1.5 hr drive from Gainesville), all last minute questions will be answered and we will begin to start our adventure along the Florida trail and hike to Spirit of the Suwannee campground. The terrain varies from high sandhills and limestone rock bluffs to flat dirt roads.

The Suwannee River has tea-colored water, tannin stained by cypress trees and oak leaves. It is fed by springs, which are seen as clear blue water where they enter the river. Striking white sand beaches occur on river bends, providing perfect places to camp. Along the trail, you’ll see clusters of huge cypress and oak trees in the middle of primitive swamps. White lilies, azalea, sparkleberries, dogwood and redbud grow along the path, as well as giant tupelo trees.

This trail offers some challenges as well as beautiful scenery As our group trip closes, participants are encouraged to reflect upon the beautiful journey, rewarding experience and any personal feelings that were envoked.

Trip location may be altered depending on weather and other factors beyond ODIE control.
